Jeep CJ The Jeep
About my car
This '79 CJ5 built as a sand toy a couple of owners ago. It's my 3rd CJ5, though it's my first since Reagan was in office. Spring over, Dodge truck engine (Mopar 360) transmission (727) and full width axles (Dana 44 front, Chryslar 9.25 rear) with 4.88 gears and a Detroit locker in the rear. Will be rebuilding starting in the fall. Doing coilover conversion with 3 link/4link. Upping from 33s to 37s. I love the open feeling of a topless Jeep, so I will only put a soft top on it that can easily be dropped on nice days. I will be fixing it up to look like an Army Jeep. (fake M38A1) I did 28 years (1981-2009) in the Army. (with 3 combat deployments) It will be a way for me to pay tribute to those who came before me, those who served with me, and those who keep my family safe now that I'm crippled and retired. I'll use the bumper numbers from my first tank I was assigned to in my first unit back in 1981. I'll paint it desert sand to simulate the vehicles we used on my last deployment in Iraq. My service dog Brandy loves riding around in it with me.
- This car was made in 1979 and I've driven it since 2016
