Volkswagen Golf The rabbit

About my car

Update below

Bought it as my first car and as an easy project. Turned out to be a heck of a project. It had sat for xx years and owner couldn't figure out why it was overheating. Me and my dear old dad figured it out and now she runs great! I love it! 82 VW rabbit, 4 door, diesel 4 speed. It was the highest hp version that year 52hp! Its a neat little car, and im glad i bought it. 105k miles, im the 3rd owner. The mirrors still work too!

6k Miles later, Still runs like a champ! Have daily driven it since 105.6k/2016. The exhaust busted probably 3 times since then, it has survived 3 Illinois winters since purchase. It's gotten a little crusty, but still trusty! It has done more than i could've ever asked for from an 800$ starter car. I taught myself to drive it in a week, and cut my teeth in the summer of '16. I eventually plan on pulling the engine out and rebuilding it. It needs cleaned, and washed more but I've been hurting for cash lately. But The Rabbit never gives up. From -30 degree weather to 90 degree, it is consistent. I love this car and will never part with it.

What needs to be fixed:

Head needs resurfaced, e brake don't work. Turn signal works but driver lens busted off when i hit a raccoon, alt belt squeals no matter how much i tighten it, tires are almost slicks, needs an alignment, brakes are good, shifter are a little sloppy, have the bushings. May have a rear main leak, very minor leak. Body supports are crusty, may need a pan down the road. Exhaust is straight piped, been patched 3 times. Gonna get an oem kit when i can. Has tractor muffler from tractor supply. Heater core is toast, driver side door hande froze and popped out but works. Control arm bushings are worn.

  • This car was made in 1982 and I've driven it since 2016
  • The Volkswagen Golf Mk1 was in production from 1974 to 1983

Sorry, I've been busy. I haven't made a post yet.
