The Resurrection of Syclone #1357 -Part 5
Syclone 1357 continues to make progress and is now my daily; the Magnum has hit 97,000 miles and is in semi-retirement.
On an odd note, I have confirmed that the motor was fresh, less than 2000 miles. In one of the SyTy forums I ran across the guy who helped install it. It was nice to get the confirmation.
Last year I installed a RetroSound radio and new Kenwood speakers. The RS stereo is an awesome addition -looks similar to factory, yet completely modern.
I have eliminated the factory breather system and replaced it with a CAI. It still needs some refinement, but the big chunky stuff is done. At the same time, we put in a new fan shroud -the old one finally broke loose and fell back onto the fan. It wasn't pretty.
I also painted the GMC in the center caps to Red Pepper red. The difference in wheels between the Syclone and its Typhoon sibling was this detail. I think it looks better with red.
The biggest addition was in the turbo and exhaust. The cat had the notorious death rattle and the exhaust looked like it had been eaten up with termites. The turbo had some play in the bearings so I decided to replace the 15g with a new 20g, reworked the cat, added a new Flowmaster Super 40 series muffler, and up-sized the exhaust to 3" with a side discharge. Right now I am using the exhaust tip from my Supra until the new one shows up in a day or two.
It has a nice rumble, for a V6, and sound doesn't intrude into the cab with the windows up. When you push the happy pedal to about 65% I remember why I always wanted one of these trucks.
Now for more shakedown and get the rest of the bugs out of it.
