Looks like the fuel pump wasn't all that was needed
When I brought the car in for the pro-active fuel pump replacement I asked my mechanic to check the reason for a clunking noise from the right front when going over a bump. Well...another piece of periodic maintenance might be control arm bushings!!! Turns out the bushings were pretty worn, the shock bump stops were crumbling, etc. So we're "refreshing" the suspension. New Bilsteins, complete control arm replacement, all shock mounting hardware, and boots for the front CV joints. I ordered all the parts and delivered them to the dealership for installation. Waiting for a few more things to come in, so have been using an A5 Sportback loaner while mine is tied up - great car, by the way - handles very well and can carry a boatload of stuff with the rear seats down.
Can't wait to see the difference a completely new suspension will make in the driving of the car. And I'm running out of things to replace, so hoping I get to do a lot of driving this year without anything other than an oil service. That's a joke of course. I love my S8, but these things can be maintenance hogs.
Next stop Daytona for the Rolex 24, and the Smokey Mountains for quattro de Mayo 2018. And if all goes well, there's an incredible drive planned for August and September, but that's a story for another post.
