What the hell was that
The other night, I was driving home after seeing a special showing of the original "Alien" movie with my son. I pulled over into a turn lane and heard (and felt) a large 'thump' from the right rear. My first thought was, "Oh crap". Soon after turning, the car warned me about low pressure on the right rear. I was close to home, the car wasn't pulling, so I finished the short drive. I got out of the car and saw the tire was noticeably losing pressure, so I swapped it out with one of my stock wheels from the garage.
I rolled the wheel over and found a dime-size hole in the tread, near the shoulder. Dang.
End up replacing all four Falken FK453 275/30/ZR20 (the good three had about 5/32" left) with four Sumitomo HTRZ III 275/35ZR20. Drove down to Hartsfield-Jackson to drop off my daughter, and so far, so good. Fills in the wheel well a bit better than the Falkens, too.
